Acquisition Scenarios for Video data

Online video distribution is quite uneven: every video channel offers its own distinctive system for its multimedia contents.
With respect to videos, a first crucial divide has to do with the technology used:
  • Actionscript: this technology is in use by all video channels that are employing a Video Player programmed in ActionScript 2.0 or 3.0 for multimedia distribution. For example YouTube, MySpace, and so on.
  • Silverlight (Microsoft): this technology is in use by all video channels that are employing a Video Player programmed in Silverlight for multimedia distribution. For example Rai.tv, Sky, and so on.
  • HTML5 standard: at present the use of HTML5 for video contents is in the process of being certified; for the time being no video platform employs this technology.
The ShinyStat™ Video Analytics system currently works with video players that employ the ActionScript technology; the versions for Silverlight and HTML5 are under development.

With respect to the ActionScript technology, there are different kinds of Video Player with slight differences and peculiarities. Among the better known video players there are: JW Player, FlowPlayer, YouTube Player, Vimeo, Daily Motion, and a few others.
